DESCRIPTION:Community Arts Day at the Wig!\n\nSaturday\, October 5\n\n10am-2pm\n\nJoin us at this free workshop featuring drop-in workshops presented in concert with Reading Room: Zines\, Comix\, & Other Radical Texts\, currently on view at the Wignall Museum. Artists Felix Quintana will share the joy of cyanotype\, an experimental photography method; Rebecca Ustrell (Curious Publishing) will lead a workshop on Experimental Bookbinding; and artists Funchicken (Mark Todd and Esther Pearl Watson) will lead participants on a Garbage Zine adventure\, making zines using found and fun discarded materials. All workshops are free and open to the public\, as space allows\, and are drop-in between the hours of 10am-2pm. Presented in collaboration between the Wignall Museum\, the Arts Area/Curious Publishing\, CalWORKS/CARE/EOPS\, and the Chaffey College Photo Department.\n\nThis programming was made possible with support from California Humanities\, a non-profit partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities. DESCRIPTION:Class Description\n\n\nIn this workshop you will learn how to make two styles of traditional brooms: the turkey tail & cobweb broom. Martin will show you the tools and techniques needed to make handmade brooms. Imbued with a modest style and a reverence for natural materials\, these brooms will be the envy of house guests as they can also be used as functional display pieces. After taking this class you will never want to buy another plastic broom from the store ever again. \n\n\nAll supplies are included in the price and no experience is required. Some upper body and hand strength is required. \n\n\n\nInstructor\n\n\nMartin Alexander is an interdisciplinary crafts person with an emphasis in technical skill mastery and conceptual art. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat to Wear\n\nPlease wear comfortable clothing and close-toed shoes. Boots or sneakers are fine and long pants are preferable. Do not wear loose or baggy clothing and please tie back long hair. No dangly jewelry. Please note\, this is a woodshop with no AC.\n\n\nNo experience necessary. For ages 13+ \n\n\nUnder 18 must be accompanied by a parent. Parent & child count as one registration. \n\n\nTwo adults cannot share a registration.\n\n\nIncludes all materials.

DESCRIPTION:CALAVERAS: A Community Exhibition \nOctober 28 – December 7\, 2024 in CAA Student Gallery\, Rancho Campus\, and Instagram @chaffeystudentgallery \n \nThe calavera\, or “skull” in Spanish\, has become one of the most recognizable cultural and artistic elements of el Día de Muertos (the Day of the Dead) tradition. The Calaveras on view were designed and ornamented by students\, faculty\, and staff in the Chaffey College community on all three campuses. Thank you to the many contributors and creators.
