DESCRIPTION:CALAVERAS: A Community Exhibition \nOctober 28 – December 7\, 2024 in CAA Student Gallery\, Rancho Campus\, and Instagram @chaffeystudentgallery \n \nThe calavera\, or “skull” in Spanish\, has become one of the most recognizable cultural and artistic elements of el Día de Muertos (the Day of the Dead) tradition. The Calaveras on view were designed and ornamented by students\, faculty\, and staff in the Chaffey College community on all three campuses. Thank you to the many contributors and creators. This exhibition was organized by the Wignall Museum of Contemporary Art and the Center for Culture and Social Justice. \n \nCalaveras Making Workshops \nFontana Campus\, Monday\, September 30\, 9:30-11:30am\,  FNAC-213; \nChino Campus\, Wednesday\, October 2\, 2-4pm\, Chino Quad; \nRancho Cucamonga Campus\, Wednesday\, October 2\, 2-4pm\, location TBD \nJoin us to create your own Calaveras. SUMMARY:From Clay to Life: Bust Sculpting Workshop w/ Michelle Solorzano
DESCRIPTION:In this 2 day 8-hour workshop\, you will create a half-sized bust of a person of your choice. You’ll learn how to use reference images—capturing the front\, sides\, and back of the head—to build a hollow bust using the slab-building technique. We will practice sculpting facial features by pushing out the form from the inside and refining details using the additive method. \n\n\n\nAll supplies are included in the price\, and no prior experience is required.

Their comics and paintings have been showcased in prestigious institutions\, including the Smithsonian\, the de Young Museum\, the Cartoon Art Museum\, the Asian Art Museum\, and the Japanese American National Museum. MariNaomi is also the founder and administrator of several important databases: the Cartoonists of Color Database\, the Queer Cartoonists Database\, and the Disabled Cartoonists Database.
