SUMMARY:Hostile Terrain 94 Toe Tag Completion workshops
DESCRIPTION:PUBLIC PROGRAM: Hostile Terrain 94 workshops  \nAugust 25-December 9\, 2025   \nMondays and Tuesdays\, 2:30-4:30pm  \n(EXCEPT September 22\, 23\, and 29\, and November 11\, 18\, 25\, and 26)  \nCAA-210  \nHostile Terrain 94 is a powerful participatory map installation and exhibition created by the Undocumented Migration Project (UMP)\, a non-profit research and arts-education collective. This exhibition seeks to humanize and bring visibility to the harsh realities of the U.S.–Mexico border\, where migrant deaths have occurred almost daily since 1994. In collaboration with UMP\, the Wignall Museum will mount an exhibition\, January 12 – March 14\, 2026. At the heart of the exhibition are handwritten toe tags\, each representing a person who lost their life while attempting the crossing. As participants complete the tags and view the accompanying maps\, photographs\, and personal artifacts\, they are invited to examine the human cost of border enforcement and reflect on the broader implications of current immigration policies.  \n  \nAbout Hostile Terrain 94 Toe Tag Completion Workshops  \nThe Hostile Terrain 94 exhibition (January 12 – March 14\, 2026) will feature a participatory map of the lives lost crossing the Sonoran Desert region of the US-Mexico border. Each person is represented by a toe tag\, placed on the location where their body was found. To reflect on border impacts worldwide and to honor lives lost to border policies\, the Wignall Museum is offering a series of free workshops to complete the toe tags in preparation for the installation. During the workshops (Fall 2025)\, participants will complete toe tags that will later be installed on the wall map. Time for discussion\, reflection\, and a grounding activity will conclude the workshop. This workshop directly connects with loss of life and violent realities of migration along U.S. border regions. The experience and content can be very powerful and personal. Please use your discretion to decide if this is an appropriate fit for your group. There are no graphic images\, but content does include references to death and violence. Participation is voluntary. No registration required\, but space is limited to 30 per workshop.

SUMMARY:Linocut Basics with Melanie Walden
DESCRIPTION:Monday\, October 13\, 12-2pm \nCAA-210\, Rancho Campus \nJoin us to learn linocut skills from artist Melanie Walden. Linocut is a versatile and easy-to-do relief printing technique. The idea of using the easy to cut linoleum instead of a hard wood as block-material for printmaking originated from the late 19th century and was primarily invented to teach printmaking in school classes. \nMaterials and tools are easy to use and with a bit of patience everyone can create prints at home on their kitchen table. Use these skills in your art-making\, zine and book arts projects\, and more! No previous experience necessary\, all supplies provided. Ages 15+.
