Join us for Family Day at the Museum in celebration of the opening of our newest exhibition SoCal Critters\, featuring activities inspired by the exhibition with gallery tours\, air dry clay workshops\, cyanotype nature printing and live wheel-throwing demos!\n\nAMOCA’s new exhibition pays homage to the whimsical ceramic animals sculpted by Howard Pierce throughout his career while celebrating our local wildlife and bringing awareness to conservation efforts. You’ll see familiar critters like cats and rabbits as well as wildlife native to our home in Pomona like coyotes and quails!\n\nTickets may be purchased at time of arrival as space allows\, but pre-registration is highly encouraged.\n\nPlease arrive 10 minutes early for a fun and relaxed check-in process. Late admission is not guaranteed. Event is subject to cancellation if weather conditions are not ideal and refunds will be given out.\n\nAMOCA’s family workshops are for all ages and everyone is welcome! Both adults and children will be given supplies to participate in the art project\n\n 	Children must be accompanied by a paying adult.\n 	Registration includes the entire Family Day experience – admission\, gallery tours\, and clay class instruction and materials.

DESCRIPTION:Reading Room: Zines\, Comix & Other Radical Texts presents a loud and proud exhibition that celebrates the contemporary relevance and impacts of zines and comics on culture today\, on the visual and literary arts\, and in the Inland Empire region of Southern California. Organized by the museum with the support of campus and community partners\, the multidimensional exhibition focuses on artists and authors whose works engage with comic and zine-making. The exhibition also features hundreds of zines and comics for visitors to read and respond to in a community studio space. Accompanying public programs will include film screenings\, panel discussions\, hands-on art-making workshops\, and other community engagement opportunities featuring local and regional creatives. Artists include Yasmeen Abedifard\, Kumasi J. DESCRIPTION:Community Arts Day at the Wig!\n\nSaturday\, October 5\n\n10am-2pm\n\nJoin us at this free workshop featuring drop-in workshops presented in concert with Reading Room: Zines\, Comix\, & Other Radical Texts\, currently on view at the Wignall Museum. Artists Felix Quintana will share the joy of cyanotype\, an experimental photography method; Rebecca Ustrell (Curious Publishing) will lead a workshop on Experimental Bookbinding; and artists Funchicken (Mark Todd and Esther Pearl Watson) will lead participants on a Garbage Zine adventure\, making zines using found and fun discarded materials. All workshops are free and open to the public\, as space allows\, and are drop-in between the hours of 10am-2pm. Presented in collaboration between the Wignall Museum\, the Arts Area/Curious Publishing\, CalWORKS/CARE/EOPS\, and the Chaffey College Photo Department.\n\nThis programming was made possible with support from California Humanities\, a non-profit partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities. DESCRIPTION:Hand-cut joinery\, shaping\, and cutting out space for hardware all require handling a chisel. Become a chisel wizard with the ultimate cutting exercise: the Gottshall block! The challenge of the Gottshall block is to recreate the given image using only hand tools. Under the skillful guidance of Martin Hernandez\, you will complete all layout using a pencil and combination square\, and all cutting with only a chisel and a mallet. \n​InstructorMartin Alexander is an interdisciplinary crafts person with an emphasis in technical skill mastery and conceptual art. \n\nWhat to Wear\nPlease wear comfortable clothing and close-toed shoes. Boots or sneakers are fine and long pants are preferable. Do not wear loose or baggy clothing and please tie back long hair. No dangly jewelry. Please note\, this is a woodshop with no AC.  \n​ \nThis class is 4 hours long\, students are welcome to bring snacks. No experience necessary for ages 18+. \n \nYou can live artfully with the Maloof!
