SUMMARY:The Beast of Hungary - LOHS
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the West Coast Premiere of this wonderful Commedia! \n\n\n\nLope de Vega’s The Beast of Hungary (1617) takes the audience on a wild journey\, from the forests of Hungary to the courts of kings. With humor and pathos\, the play explores eternal questions about justice\, loyalty\, and what makes us “human”—in all our frailty and nobility. A virtuous queen is forced into the wilderness by her power-hungry sister. As revenge\, she steals her niece and raises her as a feral girl\, who then encounters human society for the first time when she grows up and falls in love. The extremes of the human heart are on display\, from murderous jealousy to the first buddings of young love\, making us question what truly separates man from beast. \n\n\n\nThis production will be the West Coast Premiere of Lope’s play in English! Be some of the first people to see this fun\, fantastical\, and romantic play! This production features a wonderful cast of Los Osos High School Theatre students and will include a scene in the play’s original Spanish. You don’t want to miss this wonderful opportunity to be a part of theatre history in the making! \n\n\n\nThe Beast of HungaryBy Lope de VegaApril 30\, May 1 & 2 @7:00pmLOHS TheatreTickets are $8 w/VIP & $10 w/o \n\n\n\nCurrent Season | Los Osos High School Theatre Department \n\n\n\n@dramalohs

SUMMARY:Hostile Terrain 94 - Exhibition Walk-through\, Book Sale/Signing\, and Reception
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, February 10\, 1030am-2pm  \nExhibition walk-through with Dr. Jason De Léon and Michael Wells – 1030-1130am; \nBook sale/signing – 1130-1230pm; \nReception –  1230-2pm. \n  \nHostile Terrain 94 is a participatory exhibition created by the Undocumented Migration Project (UMP)\, a non-profit organization that focuses on the violent social process of immigration and raises awareness through research\, education\, and outreach.   \nIn 1994\, the United States Border Patrol launched the immigration enforcement strategy known as “Prevention Through Deterrence” (PTD). With heightened security measures at urban points of entry\, undocumented migrants were forced to traverse extremely treacherous environments\, land dubbed as “Hostile Terrain” by U.S. Border Patrol.   \nPTD failed to deter border crossers and\, instead\, millions of people have attempted to migrate through the US-Mexico border since the 1990s. By using this tactic\, the U.S. government has attempted to shift the blame onto the harsh environment\, weaponizing the land as a natural killing field. As a result of this policy\, more than 8\,100 people have died on the US-Mexico border\, largely from dehydration and hyperthermia\, while attempting the journey through California\, Arizona\, New Mexico\, and Texas. PTD is still the primary border enforcement strategy being used on the US-Mexico border today.   \nMigrant death at the border is both systemic and systematic. Policies such as PTD\, along with the use of detention centers and obstacles in attaining asylum\, have created a system that has traumatized thousands of people in the name of immigration control.   \n  \n

SUMMARY:Hostile Terrain 94 Toe Tag Completion workshops
DESCRIPTION:PUBLIC PROGRAM: Hostile Terrain 94 workshops  \nAugust 25-December 9\, 2025   \nMondays and Tuesdays\, 2:30-4:30pm  \n(EXCEPT September 22\, 23\, and 29\, and November 11\, 18\, 25\, and 26)  \nCAA-210  \nHostile Terrain 94 is a powerful participatory map installation and exhibition created by the Undocumented Migration Project (UMP)\, a non-profit research and arts-education collective. This exhibition seeks to humanize and bring visibility to the harsh realities of the U.S.–Mexico border\, where migrant deaths have occurred almost daily since 1994. In collaboration with UMP\, the Wignall Museum will mount an exhibition\, January 12 – March 14\, 2026. At the heart of the exhibition are handwritten toe tags\, each representing a person who lost their life while attempting the crossing. As participants complete the tags and view the accompanying maps\, photographs\, and personal artifacts\, they are invited to examine the human cost of border enforcement and reflect on the broader implications of current immigration policies.  \n  \nAbout Hostile Terrain 94 Toe Tag Completion Workshops  \nThe Hostile Terrain 94 exhibition (January 12 – March 14\, 2026) will feature a participatory map of the lives lost crossing the Sonoran Desert region of the US-Mexico border. Each person is represented by a toe tag\, placed on the location where their body was found. To reflect on border impacts worldwide and to honor lives lost to border policies\, the Wignall Museum is offering a series of free workshops to complete the toe tags in preparation for the installation. During the workshops (Fall 2025)\, participants will complete toe tags that will later be installed on the wall map. Time for discussion\, reflection\, and a grounding activity will conclude the workshop. This workshop directly connects with loss of life and violent realities of migration along U.S. border regions. The experience and content can be very powerful and personal. Please use your discretion to decide if this is an appropriate fit for your group. There are no graphic images\, but content does include references to death and violence. Participation is voluntary. No registration required\, but space is limited to 30 per workshop.
