Solorzano will share about her practice\, work\, and future directions. There will be an opportunity for Q & A following the presentation. \nEvent RSVP\nGo to https://www.amoca.org/events/solorzano-artist-talk-july/ to register.\nMichelle Solorzano\nMichelle Solorzano is a figurative ceramic sculptor whose work explores themes of immigration\, identity\, and culture\, all woven into a narrative shaped by her personal experiences. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Ceramics from the State University of New York at Potsdam and recently completed her Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics at Indiana University. Originally from Santo Domingo\, Dominican Republic\, Michelle relocated to New York with her family when she was fifteen. Her artwork serves as a testament to the diverse tapestry of Dominican heritage\, blending Taino\, African\, and Spanish influences. Solorzano has been in residence at AMOCA from August 2024–July 2025. \nLearn more at Solorzano’s website. \n\nAMOCA’s Residency Program\nAMOCA’s Artist in Residence Program\, established in 2012\, is one of the few long-term fellowship opportunities for ceramic artists on the West Coast. This residency provides artists an opportunity to produce or develop a new body of work. The program is funded through generous support from Julianne and David Armstrong\, Laguna Clay\, and the Windgate Foundation. Since 2022\, thanks to enhanced support from the Windgate Foundation\, additional short-term residencies are available for artists based in Southern California.

DESCRIPTION:Animal Heads Clay Workshop  –  Ages 9-16\nJoin ceramic artist Michelle Solorzano for a fun and hands-on two-day workshop exploring animal forms in clay. Participants will learn how to construct a hollow sculpture using slab and coil-building techniques. Using reference images and sketches showing the front\, side\, and back views of your chosen animal\, you’ll translate your 2D ideas into dynamic 3D forms. In addition to building\, students will create their own spring molds—small\, reusable decorative elements that can be used to add texture and embellishments to the surface of their sculptures. \nClass fee includes materials\, firings\, and a light snack. \nLearn more and register.

On the second Saturday of each month\, AMOCA’s docents offer a guided look into one of our current exhibitions. Second Saturday tours are free with museum admission\, which can be paid at the door when you arrive. \nDocent-led tours are a great opportunity to explore the exhibition and gain insights into AMOCA’s collection and galleries. Don’t miss your chance to go behind the scenes and learn about the artworks on view at the museum! \nThis in-person event is free with museum admission. Plan to arrive 15 minutes early to allow ample time to park\, purchase admission\, and meet up with the tour group. We ask that you pre-register for Second Saturday tours to reserve your spot and help us know how many guests to expect. You can also join the tour the day of event\, as space allows.

DESCRIPTION:Introductory sessions\, offered monthly\, are the perfect way to get your hands dirty\, relax\, and have fun! Learn the basics of throwing on the potter’s wheel. If you successfully create a bowl\, staff will glaze and fire it after the class is completed—all included in the price of the class. If you’d like to take the piece home with you\, you can come back and pick it up. \nIntroductory sessions last 60 minutes and cost $75. This fee includes everything needed for the class (including clay\, glaze\, and firing services). Introductory sessions are for adults ages 18 and over (students 16+ may attend when accompanied by a paying adult). \nAlong with your class comes complimentary admission to the Museum’s galleries – don’t miss the chance to explore one of the largest collections of ceramic art in the United States!

Kim will share about her practice\, past work\, and future directions. There will be an opportunity for Q & A following the presentation.\n\nThis online event will be held via Zoom. As an artist\, Stephanie is constantly pushing herself to explore new techniques and styles\, always striving to improve and evolve her craft. She creates figurative forms\, each one being illustrative and expressive.\n\nStephanie’s work has been in several juried and invitational exhibitions. Stephanie is currently a resident at American Museum of Ceramic Art and has completed many other short term residencies\, including Clay Studio of Missoula\, Baltimore Clayworks\, A.I.R. Vallauris\, and Red Lodge Clay Center.\n\nLearn more at Kim’s website.\nAMOCA’s Residency Program\nAMOCA’s Artist in Residence Program\, established in 2012\, is one of the few long-term fellowship opportunities for ceramic artists on the West Coast. This residency provides artists an opportunity to produce or develop a new body of work. The program is funded through generous support from Julianne and David Armstrong\, Laguna Clay\, and the Windgate Foundation. Since 2022\, thanks to enhanced support from the Windgate Foundation\, additional short-term residencies are available for artists based in Southern California.

DESCRIPTION:Fun for the whole family! Join us for Family Day at the Museum in celebration of the opening of our newest exhibition SoCal Critters\, featuring activities inspired by the exhibition with gallery tours\, air dry clay workshops\, cyanotype nature printing and live wheel-throwing demos!\n\nAMOCA’s new exhibition pays homage to the whimsical ceramic animals sculpted by Howard Pierce throughout his career while celebrating our local wildlife and bringing awareness to conservation efforts. You’ll see familiar critters like cats and rabbits as well as wildlife native to our home in Pomona like coyotes and quails!\n\nTickets may be purchased at time of arrival as space allows\, but pre-registration is highly encouraged.\n\nPlease arrive 10 minutes early for a fun and relaxed check-in process. Late admission is not guaranteed. Event is subject to cancellation if weather conditions are not ideal and refunds will be given out.\n\nAMOCA’s family workshops are for all ages and everyone is welcome! Both adults and children will be given supplies to participate in the art project\n\n 	Children must be accompanied by a paying adult.\n 	Registration includes the entire Family Day experience – admission\, gallery tours\, and clay class instruction and materials.
