Am I? Unveiling the Illusion of Individuality
October 10, 2023 @ 10:30 am – 12:00 pm
Tues. Oct. 10, 1030am-1230pm, room CAA-218 The Fall ’23 exhibition at the Chaffey College Wignall Museum of Modern Art, entitled Seeing the Unseen, explores intersections and collaborations among science and art. The works shown in the exhibition invite viewers to ponder a rich array of questions! Join faculty from Philosophy, Biology, Ecology, and other disciplines as they discuss and discover the potent and wide-spread exploration of the largely unseen exchanges of materials, energy, and information taking place across the boundaries of what we think of as “individuals.”
This panel discussion will explore questions like: What is an individual; and how does our perspective shift when we consider other scales and levels of organization, for example cellular, social, and community-level interactions? What unseen layers of “individual” connection can we explore? How does the way we understand ourselves as individuals shape how we see and treat ourselves and others? Come join in the exploration!
